UPDATE: Added to the list of events:
CITYBIKES BIKE REPAIR CLINIC: City Bikes is offering a free bike clinic from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., so get your bike tuned up a bit before or after your ride.
Katie Bolton, bike ambassador for the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, will be at the City Bikes stand from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with DC bike maps, some stickers, colorful spoke cards, and other info sheets. If enough kids are interested she'd like to organize a mini bike parade. And if parents want to decorate their kids' bikes, all the better! She's also happy to organize an informal ride around the southern grounds for any bikers who want to travel as a group.
THE MUSIC MAN, DJ: Billy G. White, he is a resident at the Soldiers Home and a Vietnam veteran. We are grateful he has agreed to share his talents for the July 4 celebration. He bumps up this event more than a few notches, as we now add ``dancing in the street'' to a celebration that includes local food vendors, children's fishing in the ponds, watching the National Mall fireworks, biking, hiking, picnicking, jogging, soccer, kickball, etc.
WEATHER: Yes it will be hot, let's hope for no rain! The forecast for the afternoon is 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms. If severe weather unexpectedly advances on the Home grounds during the event, we may have to vacate the premises for everyone's safety. We will update facebook.com/FriendsOfSoldiers (please ``like'' us) and @FriendsSoldiers on Twitter during the day tomorrow in terms of what we see with the weather. If we have to unexpectedly delay the event due to unanticipated severe weather, we will update those sites and send an e-mail blast
