Stories on Stage: Episode Two--Dystopian Men

Stories on Stage, a new series that features actors reading selections from recent editions of Barrelhouse magazine, returns to the DC Arts Center on Wednesday, November 14. The second episode focuses on men in dire straits.
In "After the Zombies" by Matt Willmott, a young man struggles from the after effects of an alleged zombie attack. In his attempt to move on, he begins a romantic relationship, all while suspecting an uprising of the undead.
The main character in Matt Bell's "BeautyForever" tries to make ends meet by participating in experimental drug trials, one of which allows him to see only the beauty in all that surrounds him. The pill gives him a new lease on life until his wife becomes pregnant while under its influence.

Matt Bell is the author of Cataclysm Baby, a novella, and How They Were Found, a collection of fiction. His debut novel In the House upon the Dirt between the Lake and the Woods will be published by Soho Press in June 2013. He is the Senior Editor at Dzanc Books, where he also edits the literary magazine The Collagist, and he teaches creative writing at Northern Michigan University.
Matt Willmott lives in Washington, DC, where he is working on a science fiction novel and a memoir about two years he spent living with yogis. He teaches at a progressive high school in Fairfax.

Michael Rodriguez has been performing in the DC area for the past three years. He was last seen at the Round House Theater performing in a staged reading of Dustin Lance Black's "8", produced and directed by the DC Theater Collective. Otherwise he was recently in "Lost & Found at the Hotel Mogador", one of the Ten-Minute Plays at the Source Festival and "The Nightmare Dreamer" at the Mead Theatre Lab. When not performing or selling his labor, Michael spends his time reading and writing. He holds Bachelor degrees in both Theater and Film from SFSU."
Matt Hartman is an educator and performer in the DC Metro area. He has appeared in numerous short films, web series, stage productions and is commonly found on stage at The Comedy Spot in Arlington performing comedy improv.
