On Saturday, September 29, 2012, SW ArtsFest will highlight art and culture in Washingtons smallest quadrant, Southwest. All events are free and open to the public. The festivals lineup will include a central art market, music, dance, film screenings, walking tours, and more from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Find us at 401 M Street, SW, near Waterfront Metro Station.
Central Art Market
SW ArtsFest 2012 will feature a central art market in the heart of the neighborhood. Artists, artisans, and vendors will market both cutting-edge and old-fashioned wares.
Jazz Preservation Festival
Now in its eleventh year, the Jazz Preservation Festival will feature musicians on an outdoor stage at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Hand Dancing
The National Hand Dance Association will provide music and hand dancing at Arena Stage, one of DCs oldest and most influential theaters.
Neighborhood Walking Tours
Washington Walks will offer walking tours of Southwest, the most rapidly developing neighborhood in Washington.
Film Screenings
Christ United Methodist Church will host a documentary film series, including Southwest Remembered, about urban renewal in Southwest DC.
On the Waterfront: Art Studio
At the 7th Street Landing on the Southwest Waterfront, following on last year's Sock Monkey Art Studio, Hoffman-Madison Waterfront will host a participatory outdoor art studio to stimulate the imagination of parents and children alike.
End-of-Summer Fair
In its end-of-summer fair, St. Augustines Episcopal Church will present arts, crafts, live music, and its famous fried-fish sandwiches.
Festival of Decorated Bikes: A Rolling Bike Parade
Decorate your bicycle at home, at the festival, or at one of several locations. Then join the parade. Riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome.
